One excellent maths resource (online)

Hello parents

Some of the activities and opportunities offered in this online course are great for reinforcing what children in Room 14 are learning about in 2013.

http://e-ako.nzmaths.co.nz/

I think that it would be best used if you sat down with your child and worked through the course together.
There are two courses, in place value and in fractions.

It would be best if this was a website you or another adult worked through with your child. It can be a little confusing to figure out alone.

Let me know if you have any feedback!

Sumdog website

Dear parents,

I made a change to the settings on the Sumdog website, making the questions asked slightly more advanced for the children. It is just a trial. Please give me any feedback from you or your child once you have tried it out.

Encourage your children to keep up the excellent work on the website, it is great to see so many children working from home.

cheers

Some ideas for Creative Writing.

Creative writing is getting to choose whatever topic you want. Sometimes though, writers get stuck and can't think of anything to say. This website has a really cool machine that helps to generate ideas for writing. Check it out with your children at home. Use the grade level 2 or 3.

Helping with maths at home

Here is a link for parents, from a website called NZ Maths. It gives ideas on how parents and other adults can be involved with the learning of maths, especially using opportunities you might experience in day to day life. Have a look!

How can I help at home?

And here are some very specific ideas. There is a wide range, so you are very likely to find at least a couple of new ways to be a part of your child's learning.
